VP

Hello, my name is Nathan Barta. I have been a member of PittCSC since my freshman year (2020). I am running to be the VP next semester.

Qualifications

  • Active member: have participated in pretty much every program.
  • Leader of #swift-dev branch, published 70+ articles relating to swift development, hosted ~5 meetings.
  • Business manager of Ballroom Club @ Pitt ~2 years, so I have experience dealing with SORC & other club administration challenges.

Planks

Non-exhaustive list of things I want to work on. Most planks involve reviving club events, participation, and community.

  • Participation -> Officer program: To become an officer, you must be an active participant in the club & have worked on a PittCSC initiative
  • Club constitution edits
    • Membership activity definitions/requirements
    • Officer activity/participation requirements
    • Encourage open source collaboration on the constitution https://github.com/pittcsc/Documents
  • 2 lightning/branch talks per semester
  • Project showcase: Opportunity for people to show what they’ve been working on. Alumni included.
  • Internship roundtable: Ask questions about getting an internship & getting the most out of an internship. <- Part of Zero to Offer
  • Speed dating (not romantic, just get people to know eachother)
    • Paired with behavioral interview prep
  • Directory of all Pitt CS student blogs. Maybe hook them into the main blog.
  • Update website
    • Add CSC history page
  • Directory of PittCSC alumni, used for generating leads
    • Alumni Connection program revamp
    • Also have directory of current students. That way we’d be able to add a “I am willing to be pinged for info on CS1501” feature.
      • CSC OpenDirectory - available on CSC website
        • Archivist role for coordinating all users & updating history page
  • More PittCSC emails
    • Weekly events, partner with SCI newsletter
    • OOS networking event: Try to get Pitt represented at events
      • Hackathons
      • Conferences
    • Share what PittCSC students are doing
      • Events they attended
      • Linkedin posts
      • Github contributions (open source, personal projects)
        • Make Github icon that people can place at the bottom of their projects to show affiliation with PittCSC on PittCSC related projects.
      • Research
      • Awards
      • Initiatives
    • “RFC”’s for CSC governance
      • Steelhacks action committee
      • Constitution
      • Initiatives
      • etc…
  • Take steelhacks back
  • CSC extracurricular resources list: Place to share resources to extend the knowledge you are learning in classes.
  • Officer rotation/transition process (tap-out): Semester-to-semester officer positions
